Support the Campaign to Re-Elect Mayor Mike Jarjura
To the Democrat Voters of Waterbury:
We've come a long way together over the last eight years, and with your continuing support, I am excited about the future for our great city of Waterbury.
Together we have accomplished great things beyond getting the city back on track after decades of mismanagement and malfeasance. One need look no further than the hugely successful effort we mounted to save the Greater Waterbury Heart Center -- a vital health care facility that literally saves lives in the city and around Central Connecticut-- to appreciate our resilience.
Across the state, Waterbury is being looked to as a model of fiscal excellence and stable government as evidenced by the second Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting my administration has received from the very tough Government Finance Accounting Officers Association.
The fiscal stability I've emphasized over the past eight years truly is beginning to bring results. In just the past few years, Waterbury has seen more than $300 million in industrial construction and $100 million in new commercial development.
Even in this challenging economy, my office entertains inquiries from new businesses in the health care, restaurant and high-end housing sectors. Waterbury is now among the leaders in new electronic government initiatives, with a fully computerized permitting center about to go online, as well as computerized tax payment systems. Both initiatives will allow for excellent customer service and ease of doing business that Waterbury lacked for far too long.
There are great things on the horizon for the city of Waterbury that already can be seen every day, including the new construction of a five-story office building and six major facade improvements on historic buildings downtown. Much of that investment has been spurred by our extension of the federal enterprise zone to the central business district -- an achievement no other city can boast.
The city has done its part in this effort, initiating three new elementary school projects that will transform our most marginal neighborhoods. We have spent more than $20 million on our long-neglected roads. The renovation of our jewel of a City Hall is underway. Our blight initiatives are now the standard that other municipalities seek to emulate.
Despite the challenges the nation faces today, I am confident that we can continue to grow and prosper together as a city. For that, I humbly seek your support to continue the work that you have entrusted me with in Waterbury's darkest days.
Together we have made Waterbury PROUD AGAIN, now we can make it GREAT AGAIN.
